Why Path to Match?
Testimonials

As a first-generation student, the entire residency application process felt overwhelming and honestly confusing. After basic sciences, I didn’t feel like I had much guidance, and I wasn’t sure how to navigate everything on my own. On top of that, I was discouraged by clinical advisors and even other students who told me that radiology was too competitive for a Caribbean student, and that SGU rarely matched into it. Many of them suggested that I should just apply to Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, or dual apply to have a “back-up plan.” It made me question if I was aiming too high.I also had no exposure to research because it was never emphasized during my basic science years, and I didn’t have any opportunities set up. I felt like I was already behind before I even started.
Connecting with Dr. Ruff through Path to Match completely changed that for me. Knowing that he had matched into radiology from my school made such a difference. He understood exactly what I was going through as an IMG pursuing a competitive specialty, and that alone gave me so much reassurance. He always reminded me that if he could do it, I could too, and there were definitely moments where I needed to hear that.
From the very beginning, he was incredibly supportive and accessible. We communicated through text, email, phone calls, and Google Meet, and he was always accommodating and quick to respond. It never felt like I was going through this alone. He helped me revise my personal statement multiple times, giving detailed feedback until it truly reflected me and my story. He also reviewed my ERAS application, guided me on signaling programs, helped me plan fourth-year electives to secure strong letters of recommendation, and prepared me for interviews.
One of the biggest turning points was research. I started with no experience at all, and he helped connect me with the right people. Through those opportunities, I was able to publish five papers, which I never thought would be possible for me at the start of this process.
What stood out the most was how personalized everything was. He didn’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. He really took the time to understand me, my background, and my goals, and tailored his guidance accordingly. He consistently checked in, not just about my application, but also about how I was doing mentally throughout the process. During interview season, he helped with preparation, letters of interest and intent, second look decisions, and even building my rank list. He was always encouraging, positive, and genuinely invested in my success.
Over time, this became more than just mentorship. We built a real connection, and he became someone who believed in me even on the days I didn’t believe in myself.
Ultimately, I matched into my dream specialty, Diagnostic Radiology, along with a Transitional Year for my preliminary year. When so many people doubted me, Path to Match and Dr. Ruff believed in me from the start and helped me turn this goal into reality.
This kind of individualized support is rare and truly life-changing. I couldn’t recommend Path to Match enough.

Path to Match was one of the most helpful resources I used during my residency application cycle. As someone trying to match into diagnostic radiology from my school, I knew I needed to be intentional about strengthening my application. Going into fourth year, my application was decent, but I could tell it needed more work if I wanted to be competitive.I reached out to Trevor because he had matched into the same specialty from the same school, and I felt he would understand the process better than anyone. From the beginning, he was approachable and easy to talk to. He always made time for a phone call or a quick text whenever I had questions. He gave me honest feedback about what I needed to improve before applications went out, shared insights about the match process that you really cannot find online, and helped me think through how to approach interviews.
When I found out I matched into my number one diagnostic radiology program, he was one of the first people I wanted to tell. I truly believe his guidance played a meaningful role in helping me get there. For anyone who feels unsure about how to strengthen their application or navigate the residency process, working with someone who has been through it and succeeded made a real difference for me.

Going into the Match process, I felt a lot of uncertainty about where I stood as an applicant. Having to navigate a Step 1 failure and then working hard to successfully pass both Step 1 and Step 2 within the same cycle, I often questioned how everything would come together.Path to Match gave me the structure, guidance, and reassurance I needed throughout the entire process. The support with reviewing my CV and application, along with interview preparation and honest feedback, was especially valuable. Having someone to lean on during such an unpredictable experience made all the difference.
In the end, I matched into Family Medicine at my top choice program. I’m incredibly grateful for the support and would highly recommend Path to Match to anyone navigating the Match.
